The final year project is a significant piece of independent, research-based work - designed by you and carried out with the guidance of academic staff who act as project advisors. You're encouraged to develop your own project idea within the year two research skills module and wherever possible, projects have a practical component. This may include acquisition of new data either via field or laboratory work or analysis of existing datasets.
During any field work that you need to undertake for your project, you will have access to our wide range of instrumentation and fleet of boats. You may even choose to base your project around scientific diving if you have chosen the relevant modules throughout the course. Following on from the skills modules embedded during years 1 and 2, you will be able to plan and execute your field work with a large degree of independence. You will be encouraged throughout the process to develop your own ideas whilst always having an academic member of staff on hand to guide you when necessary.
