As part of your degree, you will carry out an honours research project in your final year. This is an opportunity for you to do a project in your field of interest, ranging from projects where you spend up to 24 days doing independent field work to lab-based projects in which you analyse samples, carry out experiments, or analyse digital data. Past projects included for example geological mapping in Norway, Spain, and the UK, laboratory analysis of deep-sea sediments to reconstruct the impact of volcanism on microscopic marine life, or the remote sensing mapping of African volcanoes using satellite data. The experience is one of the most memorable parts of an earth scientists career.
