M.Arch and MA Architectural Design invite you to the premiere of “Measures of the City” film night. Through film we explore the informational role of the city in how cultural, ecological, economic, political and social conditions build connections and deepen our understanding of place. Using a broader interpretative understanding of ‘measure’- as a form of critical urban engagement, we will explore beyond what is often limited to numerical, dimensional, and quantitative information. The films expand on the notion of ‘measure’ to include units of narrative, ethical and poetic conditions in relationship to the urban and ecological condition. ‘Measure’ as well as numerical and dimensional, is also temporal. The action of measuring engages with flux, change and can be a vehicle to reveal connections previously unseen - calibrating the effects of embedded stories, rhythms and harmonies with identity and place meaning. Each engagement of ‘measure’ discloses a city-reading, a relational connection between human instrumentality and forms of city order or disorder.
*Please note that you will be required to wear a mask in all communal areas of the House and follow UoP COVID guidelines.
