David Coley is a Professor of Low Carbon Design and Head of the Energy and the Design of Environments Research Centre at the University of Bath. Since early-stage decisions have the largest impact on climate related emissions, if modelling is to help deliver zero carbon designs, tools are needed that can be used by those involved at this stage. Furthermore, David's most recent focus of work is ZEBRA, a highly simplified, quick-to-use, model for scoping zero-carbon building. The model only requires approximately 33 inputs, no training, considers embodied emissions and renewables and leaves the user upskilled on zero carbon design. Taking an average 35 minutes to use first time around, and 17 minutes on the seconds, ZEBRA presents the potential to rapidly upskill the industry.
