A transformative experience
Studying the programme was an exceptional experience due to the hands-on, practical learning opportunities it provided – from placements and internships, to employment opportunities facilitated through connections with businesses and industry.
The highlight were the marine monitoring field trips, where I deployed oceanographic instruments in the coastal waters around Plymouth and directly applied my data science skills to real-world environmental research. The
Marine Station
also gave me access to facilities and equipment that enriched my learning experience.

When I first arrived I experienced some initial culture shock, as the climate, food and daily routines were quite different from what I was used to in India.
The University's strong support systems and welcoming environment made a big difference in helping me overcome these challenges and thrive as an international student.
I reached out to the international student support services who offered advice on things like opening a UK bank account, accessing healthcare and understanding academic differences in lectures and seminars.
I found it very beneficial connecting with other international students, both from India and around the world. We shared our experiences, supported each other through homesickness and explored the University and city together.
