A transformative experience

Studying the programme was an exceptional experience due to the hands-on, practical learning opportunities it provided – from placements and internships, to employment opportunities facilitated through connections with businesses and industry.
The highlight were the marine monitoring field trips, where I deployed oceanographic instruments in the coastal waters around Plymouth and directly applied my data science skills to real-world environmental research. The Marine Station also gave me access to facilities and equipment that enriched my learning experience.
A interdisciplinary curriculum develops a unique skillset that bridges data science techniques with expertise in environmental and marine technology. This complements the supportive and welcoming atmosphere, with helpful staff and resources available to assist international students adjust to life in the UK and succeed in the programme.

When I first arrived I experienced some initial culture shock, as the climate, food and daily routines were quite different from what I was used to in India.
The University's strong support systems and welcoming environment made a big difference in helping me overcome these challenges and thrive as an international student.
I reached out to the international student support services who offered advice on things like opening a UK bank account, accessing healthcare and understanding academic differences in lectures and seminars.
I found it very beneficial connecting with other international students, both from India and around the world. We shared our experiences, supported each other through homesickness and explored the University and city together.
Plymouth offers an abundance of wonderful features that make it an exceptional place to live and study.
Surrounded by beautiful parks, gardens and beaches, Plymouth is also steeped in rich history and culture. The city's museums and thriving arts scene allows students to immerse themselves in the captivating heritage.

My international experience studying at the University was truly transformative, providing me with invaluable personal and professional benefits.
Navigating the challenges of living and working in a foreign country pushed me to develop stronger communication skills, adaptability and resilience – qualities that will serve me well in my future career.
Immersing myself in the diverse Plymouth community also gave me a deeper appreciation for different cultures and worldviews, broadening my global perspective.
