    CORN4000
    Conservation Standards for Project Management

    This module aims to train learners in the use of the Conservation Standards approach for effective conservation project management, reporting and evaluation and to instil reflective practice in learners.

    CORN4001
    Professional Development in Conservation

    Learners reflect on their own strengths as well as weakness in their professional experience in relation to completion of the course and/or the conservation jobs they hope to secure in the future. Suitable training is then identified and undertaken to strengthen core knowledge, skills and future employment prospects.

    Conservation Funding

    This module aims to build the knowledge, skills and experience needed to leverage conservation funding to get conservation projects off-the-ground and to ensure long-term, sustainable funding in-line with project objectives.

    Communicating Conservation

    This modules focuses on building knowledge of communication theory and human behaviour change and why this is essential to conservation. Successful conservation requires practitioners to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders and those messages need to be tailored to the audience. Creative and effective use of media and storytelling has become an essential skill. Students will gain practical skill in designing and running communications campaigns.

    Research Methods for Conservation

    Conservation decision making should be evidence-based, which applies just as much to testing research hypotheses as it does to making decisions about whether specific conservation actions, for example a communications campaign, have been successful. This module will equip students with the research design and data analysis skills necessary to undertake and evaluate the results of a scientific study as well as use data to effectively evaluate project objectives.

    Conservation Project

    Students will design and undertake a conservation project, putting into practice the skills learnt during the other modules and aligning with their own identified professional development plan. Following the Conservation Standards project cycle of assess, plan, implement, analyze and adapt, and share, students will complete a conservation project, tackling an identified problem and working alongside a project partner.

    Conservation Field Trip UK

    Unless opting to enrol on the optional international field trip module, all students will complete this module where they will have the opportunity to join a residential field trip to experience a UK-based conservation project. Students will apply conservation theory to conservation scenario in the UK, taking into account commitments under international conventions as well as national conservation legislation.

    International Conservation Field Trip

    This module will expose students to a community-based conservation programme in a Biodiversity Hotspot. Students will apply the Conservation Standards approach to assess the conservation issues faced by the case study encountered and to evaluate the current approach to conservation. Students reflect on the challenges and opportunities within this context. The module gives students first-hand experience of working on an international conservation project.

Entry requirements

UK/EU

A relevant degree with honours or an equivalent professional qualification. Other qualifications accompanied by substantial experience in an appropriate field may also be considered. Non-standard applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

International
