Sophie Challis graduated in BSc (Hons) Sociology in 2014. After initially spending some time travelling and working abroad, Sophie has now returned to the UK to train to be a teacher.

“I originally chose sociology because I enjoyed the subject when I was at school, and even though at that point I didn’t know what I wanted to do in the long run, I did know I wanted to go to university.
“Once on the course, I met many people who had a variety of career aspirations and plans I had not thought of before. It was someone on my course who influenced me to go travelling.
“My lecturers were great and very helpful – always giving up their time and offering really valuable advice. The library was also a great support to me; the resources they offer are fantastic.”
Collecting experience all over the globe
“After I graduated, I went travelling to New Zealand, Australia, and South-East Asia.
"After a few months living and working in Brisbane, Australia, I moved to Sweden for just under two years, where I worked as a nanny and learned the language.
"Since then I have moved back to the UK and have recently started a PGCE course at Bath Spa University.”
"The best thing I have done in my career is to help children grasp the basics of the English language."
Making memories in our ocean city
“Plymouth is a lovely city and the University itself has a great campus. Outside of the city, Devon is a beautiful county with amazing countryside and beaches.
“I have so many great memories of studying at Plymouth, so many to choose from, but the friends I made stand out the most for me. My graduation ceremony on the Plymouth Sound was also a highlight.”
