I have been at Plymouth for five years and I am currently Head of the Careers Service in the Academic Registry. Prior to this I was Faculty Business Manager in the (former) Faculty of Business, leading the professional services teams. Before Plymouth, I spent a decade at the University of Exeter in (central) professional service functions, leading and/or managing portfolios including employability services, student development, researcher development and educational development. Nationally, I have been an active member of various professional and regulatory bodies and strategic advisory groups including the former HEFCE, AGCAS, HEA, ISE and CABS. I am a Principal Fellow of the HEA.
Although now a decade ago, my award was for all things related to student and researcher development.
I am working on a number of careers and employability enhancements across the University including subject-based development plans, working closely with academic colleagues and Heads of School. I am also supporting staff in the Careers Service who are working on a number of wider Student and Faculty engagement initiatives (e.g. mentoring, internships, student communications, tech-enhanced systems and platforms in careers education). Finally, I am trying to create an internal infrastructure and culture of support, guidance, initiatives and resources for all those academics working with students to enhance their future career prospects.
