Most people will, at some time or other, have some part of their anatomy cut off them. Hopefully by a medical professional. Large or small, that piece of you will very often go for analysis to determine if there was anything wrong with it (apparently randomly resecting people for no good reason is frowned upon in the legal profession).
That is where pathology comes in. Not just the home of the dead but a ballet of cutting-edge tools, complex diagnostics, and lots and lots of interesting smelling chemicals. Follow the journey from when a piece of tissue arrives in the lab until it leaves as a diagnosis for the GP in-tray, with everything in between. A lighthearted romp through a hospital's hottest laboratory where anything can happen.
This lecture will be delivered by Dr Paul Laurance-Young, and will follow the AGM of the RBS Devon and Cornwall branch. All are welcome to attend the AGM, but only Devon and Cornwall branch members can vote. This free event will be held online and in person at the University. Please note there is limited availability for in-person attendance. Registration is essential whether attending online or in person.
