"Cool Kids Can Cook" is taking place at the ESRC Festival of Social Science, where children aged 7–9 will explore the digital world of food and learn how to make healthy, sustainable choices.
Building on our previous "Food for Thought" and "From Field to Plate" projects, this interactive workshop will help kids understand where food comes from, the importance of seasonal and local produce, and how to cook fresh, delicious meals.
In collaboration with Tamar Grow Local and students from the School of Art, Design and Architecture, the event will feature a digital animation created through co-creative means as well as using illustrations from the Tamar Grow Local cookery book. Kids from Salisbury Road Primary School will engage in a fun exercise on seasonal produce, participate in a hands-on cooking session led by a trained cook, and enjoy a meal they've prepared together.
This event not only fosters a love for cooking but also deepens children's awareness of healthy, sustainable eating. The animation is intended to be used as a part of an educational tool kit in primary schools.
The event is led by Dr Nikolina Bobic , Lecturer in Architecture, University of Plymouth.
