Many of our arts and culture events have a ‘Talk’ associated with them, be it Musica Viva, exhibitions in The Levinsky Gallery, or our film and performance programmes. This page highlights Cultural Talks, the Research Seminars, ‘Bitesize’ in the Gallery, and our new, ‘Creative Talks’, which see speakers’ talking about their practice and process of making art, craft, performance, writing, painting etc. Culture and creativity are part of who we are and what we hope for. The Talks series feature researchers and practitioners from our University and beyond, initiating disciplinary-specific as well as multi and inter-disciplinary conversations.

Creative Talks 

Creative Talks feature practitioners, makers and artists who work in a variety of disciplines, media, and forms across the creative arts, including: the visual arts, design, performance, craftwork, creative writing and more. The series aims to address questions about the nature of ‘creativity’ and ‘practice as research’, featuring speakers who will share their work, the processes they use, their influences, and their own experiences of professional practice. The series will include a diverse mix of events, including talks, performances, and workshops.  
In an open, multi-disciplinary space, our Creative Talks will introduce audiences to a wide range of creative practices that inspire new ideas about how to make work.

Cultural Talks

Details of Bitesize Talks (in The Levinsky Gallery), Film and Musica Viva Talks, Performance talks and History Talks (in partnership with the Historical Association) can be found on our What's on page . These talks recognise collaborations such as the University's history department with Plymouth’s Historical Association to bring you a joint programme of insightful talks within the arts and culture programme. Invited guests share their expertise and passion for history with audiences eager to explore the past in all its forms.

Research Seminars

Research seminars are part of almost every discipline’s routine business. They feature University researchers and visiting speakers, all expert in their field and speaking to their own investigations. They are open to those within and outside of their disciplines: academics, students, and the public alike. For those who want to join the conversation – be it about English literature, Criminology, or Education -- you are welcome to join the conversation. Our talks take place in a variety of venues on campus, primarily in the Roland Levinsky Building. This flagship arts, cultural, and teaching facility combines innovative teaching spaces, exhibition areas, and a cinema, making it a cornerstone of the city's arts and cultural landscape. Located at the heart of Plymouth's cultural offer, the Roland Levinsky Building provides a vibrant hub for learning, exploration, and engagement.
